14th September is National Pet Memorial Day, a day dedicated to remembering the pets who have been an important part of our lives.
For many of us, a pet is much more than an animal. They become part of the family, sharing our everyday routines, special moments and countless memories along the way.
When they are no longer with us, those memories remain.
A Day to Remember
National Pet Memorial Day gives us an opportunity to take a little time to remember the pets we have loved and lost.
There is no right or wrong way to mark the day. It could be as simple as looking through some favourite photographs, visiting a place you used to enjoy together or sharing a favourite memory with family and friends.
Some people choose to:
-
Light a candle in their memory
-
Create a photo album or memory box
-
Plant a tree, rose or favourite flower
-
Visit a favourite walking spot
-
Write down a favourite memory
-
Create a special place in the garden
-
Make a donation to an animal charity in their name
Sometimes, simply taking a moment to remember them is enough.
Creating a Lasting Place to Remember
Having somewhere special to visit can also bring comfort.
A favourite corner of the garden, a tree they used to sit beneath or another meaningful place can become somewhere to remember the happy times you shared.
Some families choose to mark these places with a personalised pet memorial featuring their pet's name, dates, photograph or a few meaningful words.
It doesn't need to say a lot. Simple messages such as "Forever in our hearts," "Always by our side" or "Loved beyond words, missed beyond measure" can say everything that's needed.
Always Loved. Always Remembered.
However you choose to mark National Pet Memorial Day, today is simply an opportunity to remember the companionship, happiness and love our pets brought into our lives.
To all the much-loved pets being remembered today — always loved, always remembered. 🐾
